When registration is required
In Rajasthan, which is a general category state, the basic turnover limits are Rs 40 lakh for suppliers of goods and Rs 20 lakh for suppliers of services, though the rules and notified exceptions are updated from time to time. Registration is compulsory regardless of turnover in several situations, for example when you supply goods or services to other states, sell through e-commerce operators, or are required to pay tax under reverse charge. Many businesses also register voluntarily so they can claim input tax credit and sell to registered buyers who need tax invoices.
What Jaipur businesses need to submit
For a proprietor we usually need the PAN and Aadhaar, a photograph, a bank account proof and the proof of the business premises. For a company, LLP or partnership we also need the constitutional documents, the PAN of the entity and authorisation for the signatory. For rented premises the proof is the rent agreement, the owner's consent and a recent electricity or property tax bill. For owned premises, the ownership document and a utility bill are used.
Businesses we often see in Jaipur
Jewellery and gemstone traders, textile and handicraft sellers, exporters, hotels and travel businesses, software and service providers, and retailers all register for different reasons. Exporters should look at the rules for supplies without payment of tax under a letter of undertaking and at refund options. Hotels and service providers should check which rate and credit rules apply to them. We go through this with you before filing, not after.
After you receive the GSTIN
Display the certificate at your place of business, add the GSTIN to your invoices, and note the filing calendar. Monthly or quarterly returns must be filed even when there is no business in a period, and late filing attracts fees and interest. We can set up bookkeeping and return filing so that your input tax credit matches the supplier data on the portal.

Frequently asked questions
Is GST registration compulsory for small shops in Jaipur?
Not if you sell only within Rajasthan and stay below the turnover limit, unless a specific rule makes registration compulsory for your activity. You can still register voluntarily.
How long does GST registration take?
With correct documents it often takes a few working days, though the officer may ask for clarification or a physical verification, which can add time.
Can I register with a rented shop or home address?
Yes, with the owner's consent letter, the rent agreement if any, and a recent utility bill for the premises.
Do I need GST registration to sell on online marketplaces?
Generally yes, because supplying goods through an e-commerce operator usually requires registration irrespective of turnover, subject to the current notifications.
What returns will I need to file?
Usually monthly or quarterly returns plus an annual return, depending on your turnover and the scheme you choose. We confirm the right schedule when we register you.
